Protein Recovery Plants processes mixed abattoir material, fat and bone, blood, feather and poultry by products. The mixed abattoir material is processed through a world class low energy rendering plant producing high quality tallow and Meat & Bone Meal (MBM).
Trucks arriving at the plant required fast unloading of material. The helical rotor pumps installed at this point of the production line are relatively simple in design and should have been able to handle the material. However, blockages occurred due to larger pieces of material within the fluid stream. These blockages then caused the pumps to run dry causing dry run failure. As a result, there was significant downtime in the production line as well as costly repairs to rectify the breakdowns.
The client had undertaken research to determine if there was an alternative to the Helical Rotor Pump. This research led the client to the Wilden Product Range of Air Operated Diaphragm Pumps and contacted a member of the Industrial Team to discuss the issue and to refine his pump selection. This telephone call was followed up by a site visit which gave the Business Development Manager a chance to see the production bottleneck first hand.
In discussing the production bottleneck, it was quickly determined that the client did need a pump that could handle large volumes of material with the added ability to also handle solids in the product stream due to the “flap valve” design. The beauty of using the Wilden Brahma Air Operated Diaphragm Pump is that it can run dry without damaging the pump, thereby eliminating the production bottleneck.
As the sole authorised dealer for Wilden Pumps in Western Australia, Allied Pumps understands Wilden Pumps and was able to recommend the Wilden Brahma Air Diaphragm Pump, Atex Rated fitted with PRO-FLO SHIFT® Air Distribution System with Ductile Iron wetted parts and outer piston, NEOPRENE diaphragm, o-rings and valves with Ductile Iron Valve Seats.
The Wilden Brahma Air Operated Diaphragm Pump was ordered, supplied, installed and put into service. The client was able to report an immediate improvement as the pump was able to handle the product stream with ease.
The client was very honest and advised this was a test of the product and if it worked they would order additional pumps to replace the remainder of the existing helical rotor pumps. The Wilden Brahma Air Operated Diaphragm Pump immediately removed the production bottleneck when it went into the production line. As a result, two additional pumps were ordered saving the client time, production downtime and money.
