ALLIED PUMPS NOTABLE PROJECTS

NOTABLE PROJECTS

Here at Allied Pumps we have provided our expertise and leading-edge solutions across many significant projects in the mining, commercial, industrial, environmental and process and water infrastructure sectors both nationally and overseas. While we treat each project with the same care and attention to detail, there are some projects we acknowledge are more notable than others. Here are some projects we consider to be our most iconic ones to date.

Bunbury Water Authority

July 7, 2020

Formed in 1905 to obtain, treat and distribute water supplies, the Bunbury Water Board has served the people of Bunbury for over 100 years. The city's early settlers knew of water stored naturally underground and tried to use it to replace the Collie River and the Preston River, which were the only sources of water for drinking in those days. We supplied the first variable speed system to the water authority. It's still being used today.

Perth Airport Fire Protection

July 7, 2020

We were recently involved in supplying fire protection for Perth Airport. View the video to see the testing DFES conducted at the facilities in March 2017.

Royal Perth Hospital Fire Pumpset Replacement

July 7, 2020

Royal Perth Hospital is a 450-bed teaching hospital located on the north-eastern edge of the CBD of Perth in Western Australia. The project started with a site visit by us. We measured and discussed the design needs for the fire pump set refurbishment. The first step was to disable and remove the existing system. This removal was the same day as the new system's delivery so there was no site storage required. The new system was then installed in one day. This was a quick turnaround time, and we were able to meet the timeframe to ensure minimal downtime.

Hunt Point Potable & Fire Water Storage Tanks

July 7, 2020

Our client required new potable water and fire water storage tanks to be manufactured onsite. The location is particularly close to the harbour shoreline and situated in the category 5 cyclone region, which means winds can be in excess of 280 km per hr. This impacted every facet of design. We had extensive contact with suppliers to find alternative products that could withstand the aggressive environmental location. The process included a search for tank wall, nuts, and bolts all the way through to paints and roofing materials. We successfully installed all the equipment on schedule, within a 3 week period with no major disruptions or safety incidents. The tank construction was guaranteed for 25 years. The client was very satisfied with the end solution.

Roy Hill Diesel Infrastructure

July 7, 2020

The Roy Hill railway is a 344km standard gauge, single line, heavy haul railway built to transport 55Mtpa of iron ore from the Roy Hill Mine to the Port stockyard facility, in the Boodarie Industrial Estate south of Port Hedland. This operation uses a lot of diesel and was in need of a large bulk diesel facility to rapidly fuel the trains to meet production and delivery demands. This would allow them to function more efficiently. Nothing of this nature had ever been accomplished. Traditionally fuel facilities have pumps for unloading, loading and other refuelling activities located around the site and are wired back to a Motor Control Centre building. Our solution was to consolidate the pumping, compressed air equipment and Motor Control Centre onto a single super skid. The skid was pre-fabricated, assembled and tested at our facility and lifted into place on site where only a single lift was required. The project was delivered on time and as requested.

Large Residential Complex – Water Pressure

July 7, 2020

A residential complex in Perth required an innovative way to pump water to reduce power consumption and improve sustainability. In many new buildings, there is a push to use a single basement tank with basement pumps pressuring all the way to the top of the apartment block. However, Allied Pumps had a better solution. A small pump and tank at the basement of the apartment block transfers water to the rooftop tanks at a low flow, keeping the rooftop tank full. A smaller, variable speed pump supplies the top few floors, whilst the levels below are fed by gravity. With a roof top tank full of water at all times, even during a power outage, the system can still supply the residents with water. Smaller pumps, simpler control logic, and reduced tank capacities all kept initial costs low and provided huge benefits for the complex.

Orebody 29 – In-Pit Dewatering

July 7, 2020

A below water table mine operation in the Shire of East Pilbara sustains the Newman Hub mining operations at a Western Australian iron ore mine site. The client needed an in-pit dewatering solution to discharge excess groundwater for a new section of the pit. The solution was required within eight weeks. A bore system using equipment that would suit their requirements was designed. We provided Kwikbore bore head works systems which were trailer-mounted. This would minimise dewatering and pumping downtime during removal of the existing equipment from the mining pit during blasting and installed the head works once the blasting was completed. Overall, six mobile head works systems were used, each featuring a unique plug and play design with remote telemetry system for integration with the site SCADA system. Our experienced technicians carried out onsite commissioning to effectively integrate the pumping systems into the BHP site-wide SCADA system. The project was delivered on time and on budget and operates to the specification set out in the scope of works.

Citic Pacific – Eye Wash Station & Fire Protection

July 7, 2020

Due to the hot weather that is common throughout the year in the Pilbara region, water stored in potable water tanks can often reach temperatures in excess of 40 degrees. This is unacceptable for applications such drinking and eye wash stations and we needed to come up with a solution to accommodate this. We also provided the fire protection for a new Sino Iron Steel Warehouse in a tight 6 week deadline. Keep an eye out for the Fire Protection provided and find out more about the Eye Wash Station below.

Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison Fire Pump Skid Upgrade & Commissioning

July 7, 2020

Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison is an Australian prison located in Boulder, Western Australia, and opened in 1980. An upgrade to the fire pump skid and commissioning was necessary in 2014. The primary challenge was carrying out both tasks at the same time including upgrading and commissioning. We worked hard to balance both tasks resulting in a successful delivery of the project.

WA Museum – Dual Galvanised Fire Tanks

July 7, 2020

The proposed fibreglass storage tank had an extended lead time of 14 weeks. To ensure schedules were kept, we recommended a galvanised tank, which was a first for us. This was an experience of trial and learning. Everything went smoothly providing the client with a viable solution within the requested timeframe.
